Sustained Investigation

How do we fit into the world?

An investigation into purpose and identity

Sustained Investigation

For my sustained investigation, I followed the overall inquiry of “How do we fit into the world?” Through this, I sought to capture my identity and purpose in the world; with the aid of bright colors, placed alongside contrasting draining desaturation to create a patchwork personage. Whether it was an abstract reconstruction of the self-pieced together digitally in the conflict and uncertainty of our lives-or an appreciation of the natural world-how we fit alongside such a magnificent world, grander than we can ever hope to make a lasting effect on.

In the beginning of my sustained investigation, I originally followed a different question, paired with 15 different images than the ones that are present today. As I started to collect my photos over the weeks, I grew unsatisfied and did not believe they truly captured my essence. I worked on a concept for a photo, retaking it over and over, adjusting it in Photoshop, until it reached far beyond my novice intention. As the new works started to take shape, so did the refinement of what my focus had morphed into: who I was, built from how I found myself over the perfecting of my photography.
